Pioneer baseball player A.J. Gallardo collects all-region, all-conference honors

A.J. Gallardo, Cal State East Bay senior pitcher, was named May 22 to the 2012 All-NCAA Division II Western Region second team. This follows his being named to the All-California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Baseball second team announced earlier in the month.
Gallardo, who had an overall record of six victories and one loss, had an earned run average of 2.54, and three complete games for the season. He made nine starts in CCAA play, where he compiled a 5-1 record. His 2.63 ERA and three complete games, ranked Gallardo sixth in the CCAA. As of April 2, Gallardo led all CCAA hurlers with a 0.54 ERA.
In 51.1 innings of conference action, Gallardo allowed 50 hits, 15 earned runs and 16 walks, while striking out 33 CCAA hitters.
Gallardo hurled a complete game victory over UC San Diego. In seven innings, Gallardo held the Tritons to one earned run and six hits, while striking out five batters.
He also posted a pair of complete game wins over Cal State Stanislaus and Cal State Monterey Bay.
