- June 13, 2012
The Brenda Lin Band will perform at Fun Day in the Sierra Room at Del Valle on Thursday, June 21, at noon.
The program will consist of standards, jazz and show tunes. Lin will be accompanied by pianist Todd Netland, percussionist Robert Hamaker, bassist Daniel Lucca Parenti and guitarist Ben Barron.
Originally from Taiwan, Lin, the youngest of nine children, grew up singing with her siblings. She studied vocal and music performance at Diablo Valley College and has performed there as well as at retirement communities and different venues in the Bay Area.
Brenda Lee, Elvis Presley, Edith Pief, Ella Fitzgerald, Shirley Bassey, and Barbra Streisand are some of the artists who helped shape Lin's musical style.
A graduate of Cal State East Bay with a bachelor's degree in applied piano, Netland began touring with Sound of Joy, a contemporary Christian music group as a full-time pianist and arranger in 1982. He later joined the Celebrant Singers and toured over 50 countries worldwide throughout his career. Netland has produced several recordings and performs regularly in the Bay Area.
Hamaker is the principal percussionist, personnel and stage manager for Diablo Symphony Orchestra for over 25 years. He is also the principal percussionist for Vallejo Symphony Orchestra. Hamaker also teaches at his private studios and perform with many other symphonies, bands, and theater groups around the Bay Area.
Parenti, also a graduate from Cal State East Bay with a bachelor's in music performance and composition, has performed with many jazz legends, including Rosemary Clooney, Michael Brecker and Lionel Hampton. He toured all over the continental United States, Hawaii, Germany, and Canada.
Parenti recorded four CDs with Concord Jazz Records, two of which, Rosemary Clooney's “Sentimental Journey” and “The Last Concert,” were Grammy nominated. He has released five original albums.
Family Kitchen Catering will offer a wide variety of food items for sale prior to the show, such as sandwiches, salads, doughnuts, cookies and more. Stay after the show and play bingo for the benefit of Friends of Meals on Wheels from 1 to 2:30 p.m. There is a small fee to play bingo.
