It appears three members of Narbonne's L.A. City Section champion girls basketball team will be playing at the college level.
Point guard Kim Pickett has earned a scholarship to Blue Mountain College in Oregon, a DivisionI junior college.
"Everything is being paid for," Narbonne coach Victoria Sanders said. "Out-of-state junior colleges can offer scholarships."
Pickett hopes to parlay her time at Blue Mountain College into a major Division I scholarship, much like former Banning star Stephanie Lopez did in leading Blue Mountain before joining University of San Francisco.
Pickett will join L.A. City Section rival Dana Haley of Fairfax at Blue Mountain.
"They saw Kim, and they were like, `Oh my God, we have to have her.' They went above and beyond to get her," Narbonne High School coach Victoria Sanders said. "Their coach was wondering how Kim was getting so overlooked. They did whatever it took to get her there."
Forward Tori Breshers committed to Cal State East Bay, a program that Sanders said had pursued her from the beginning.
"UNLV kind of fell off a bit, Nevada had a change of coaches and no one followed up with her, and East Bay felt like the right fit for her," Sanders said.
Alexis McCowan will be playing at Cerritos College, earning a spot after a strong finish.
"I told her about midseason what she needed to do to get to the next level and she really stepped up her game and finished strong," Sanders said.
