Allen Warren: Sacramento City Council District 2
- June 12, 2012
Bio: Allen Wayne Warren was born and raised in Del Paso Heights. His mother and father worked hard to provide for their six kids. They didn't have much money, but they worked hard to get by. And they taught their children that anything was possible if you worked hard and pushed yourself to be the best.
Giving back to your community was a concept that began at home. Warren's dad not only raised his own kids, but mentored dozens of others, and the Warren home was frequently full of children of every ethnicity.
Tragically, Warren's father was killed by a drunk driver when Allen was 14, but he practices the values learned from his father every day, at home, in business or walking the neighborhood streets where he grew up.
From an early age, Allen felt driven to succeed. He excelled as an athlete at Grant High School, achieving a number one ranking in the Sacramento region in three sports – baseball, basketball and football. Going on to college, Allen focused on baseball, first at College of the Siskiyous and later at
California State University, Hayward. His performance as a baseball player drew the attention of the New York Yankees organization, and he was offered and accepted a spot as a center fielder in the
Yankees' farm team system. After being sidelined by injuries on the field, Warren returned to Cal State Hayward, finished his degree with top grades and in record time, and was soon noticed by another recruiter – this time from the stock brokerage firm Dean Witter - who enticed him into the New York City executive training program and launched his two year career on Wall Street.
Never forgetting his childhood lessons and core values, Warren returned home to Sacramento with the urge to build a business and a community. He parlayed a 5-acre parcel his mother owned into a 26-lot subdivision in Del Paso Heights and began a career as a builder and owner of New Faze Development.
From the office and retail complex he built on Del Paso Boulevard, Warren would build a portfolio of projects throughout Northern California, worth over $1 billion dollars. While the financial and housing collapse and resulting recession has taken a toll on everyone in the construction industry, Warren has stayed focused on providing quality, affordable, smart-growth projects that heavily emphasize urban revitalization.
Warren has a B.A. in Political Science with a minor in Business Administration from California State University, Hayward. He and his wife, Dr. Gina Warren, have three children: Braxton, 14; Synclaire,11; and Roman, 8.
