Cal State East Bay Magazine celebrates the appointment of Leroy M. Morishita as the university’s fifth president in its latest issue, focusing on his priorities for the future and his dedication to providing access to opportunity.

The spring 2012 issue — — explores the CSUEB tradition of leadership as exemplified by alumni, students, and faculty who are playing significant roles in boardrooms, health care and academia.

The cover story features Morishita, tracing his career trajectory from a childhood on a Central Valley farm to a long, distinguished career in the California State University system, and also introduces his wife, Barbara Hedani-Morishita, the new “first lady” of CSUEB.

Additionally, alumni share their stories of success in management, including the Pioneers’ new baseball coach and a former student body president who’s now a vice president for a distinguished East Coast university. Readers will meet current students honing their leadership skills in the Peer Mentor Program, which offers a hand up for freshmen facing the challenges of college life for the first time.

The issue also profiles English Professor Stephen Gutierrez, the 2010-11 George and Miriam Phillips Outstanding Professor of the Year.

The online magazine includes articles and photo galleries, as well as a downloadable PDF of the print magazine. The full print edition is available for browsing online through issuu.com.
