Hayward arts gallery honors Russell City Blues Festival

HAYWARD -- Cinema Place Gallery is celebrating the blues.
In honor of the upcoming Hayward/Russell City Blues Festivals, a new exhibit, "Art of the Blues 11," features signed posters from all the past blues festivals. The exhibit in the main gallery also features pieces from the private collection of festival promoter Ronnie Stewart.
Sculptor Peter Lagenbach has five pedestal pieces in the show, and Marion Coleman and Geri Patterson-Kutras have art quilts on display.
This year's Russell City Blues Festival is July 7 and 8 at Hayward City Hall Plaza.
The ongoing Photo Phantom Photographers have relocated to the front of the gallery for the show. Their current exhibit focuses on people and places that reflect the blues.
Also at the gallery is two- and three-dimensional work from a life drawing class at the Adobe Art Center in Castro Valley. It includes pieces by Betty Barnes, Larry Bendoski, Garr Crookston, Lillian Lees, Diane Higgins and instructor Richard Gunn.
The exhibits will be on display through July 27 at the gallery, 1061 B St. in downtown Hayward.
The gallery's next show will feature work by Cal State East Bay students, faculty and alumni. It opens Aug. 2 and runs to Sept. 2.
Cinema Place Gallery is free and open noon to 8 p.m. Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays and noon to 4 p.m. Sundays. It is managed by the Hayward Arts Council.
