HAYWARD -- Two Cal State East Bay students are helping inspire pride in their school's hometown.

Cory Bardwell and Jennifer Jacobo won an East Bay art contest focused on Hayward, winning them spots on downtown billboards. Bardwell also was awarded a paid internship at a marketing firm.

Bardwell's artwork, featuring the university's iconic Warren Hall, can be seen at Mission Boulevard and A Street. Jacobo's colorful piece graces a billboard on Foothill Boulevard, near Ash Street.

The billboards, along with the other entries, are also online at /

The contest, a collaboration between the university, city and Oakland Digital Arts and Literacy Center, was modeled after a project in Oakland to inspire the community.
