Princeton Review again recognizes CSUEB quality

California State University, East Bay is one of the best colleges in the West, according to The Princeton Review, a nationally known education services company.
In naming Cal State East Bay among only 122 institutions of higher learning to receive its prestigious 2013 “Best in the West” designation, The Princeton Review recognized the university for “excellent academic programs,” and took into account the opinions of enrolled students as well as counselors and advisors.
It is the ninth straight year that the university has been recognized by the influential Princeton Review, which provides college preparation research and recommendations to students and their parents throughout the United States.
“The Princeton Review’s continuing recognition of Cal State East Bay as a ‘Best in the West’ university confirms the excellence of our academic programs,” said Leroy M. Morishita, CSUEB president. “Our students – representing diverse backgrounds – are realizing their personal and career dreams because of the dedication of our extraordinary faculty and the academically rich, multicultural learning experience provided by the university. The students have embraced the institution’s core values of social justice, equity and sustainability, while developing the ability to think quantitatively, scientifically and creatively.”
“We’re pleased to recommend Cal State East Bay to users of our site as one of the best schools to earn their undergrad degree,” said Robert Franek, Princeton Review’s senior vice president/publisher. “We chose it and the other terrific institutions we named as ‘regional best’ colleges mainly for their excellent academic programs. We also take into account what students at the schools reported to us about their campus experiences at them on our 80-question student survey for this project. Only schools that permit us to independently survey their students are eligible to be considered for our regional ‘best’ lists.”
The Princeton Review’s report about the university indicated that students chose CSUEB for its affordable tuition, small class sizes, and strong programs in business, nursing, and teaching (referring to teacher education).
“Students say CSUEB is dedicated to ‘helping the students get where they need to be as soon as possible’ so that they can be ‘ready for the real world,’” The Princeton Review report said.
Regarding campus life and facilities, The Princeton Review heard these comments from students: “During the school day, CSUEB bustles with student clubs, theatre and music productions, fraternity and sorority meetings, and spots. For fun, students can socialize in the University Union, watch sports on the big screen (and) play pool and table tennis… CSUEB’s location is ‘breathtaking’ with its panoramic views of the San Francisco Bay… CSUEB is an extremely diverse campus in terms of both ethnicities and attitudes (and has a) culturally diverse atmosphere that promotes educational growth… almost everyone here is serious about their education and extremely focused.”
The 122 colleges that The Princeton Review chose for its “Best in the West” list are located in 15 states: California, Alaska, Arizona, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas, Utah, Washington and Wyoming.
