CSUEB talk to focus on women in sports

HAYWARD -- The role of women in sports since the enactment 40 years ago of Title IX will be the top of a lecture Thursday evening at Cal State East Bay.

Nicole LaVoi, the associated director of the Tucker Center for Reserach on Girls and Women in Sports at the University of Minnesota, will be presenting the talk.

Her lecture will focus on the status of females in sport and issues impacting women in leadership positions since the establishment in 1972 of Title IX -- the federal law prohibiting sex discrimination in educational institutions.

The talk will begin at 7 p.m. in room 124 of the Valley Business and Technology Center at Cal State East Bay, 25800 Carlos Bee Blvd.

The lecture is sponsored by CSUEB's Center for Sport and Social Justice and the Department of Kinesiology.

Admission is free and open to the public.
