The Cal State East Bay choirs, the Eden United Church of Christ choir, and the Hillsdale High School (San Mateo) chamber singers are collaborating on this year’s Winter Gala Concerts to benefit the Alameda County Community Food Bank and their member agencies.

Concerts will be performed at 4 and 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8 at the church, 21455 Birch St., Hayward. Advance tickets at $15 each are only available online through .  This concert typically sells out, but should seats be available the day of the performances, tickets will be sold at the door.

The premier piece will be Daniel Pinkham’s “Christmas Cantata,” for choir, brass and organ.

The link between the University and church comes by way of Lee Steward, a CSUEB voice instructor, and church music director. It was only natural that Buddy James, CSUEB associate professor of music and choral director, invited his long time friend and Hillsdale director, Mark Fish, to join them.

“The church has a wonderful organ and organist (Heather Paisar), and very fine acoustics,” said James.

Attendees can support the community in several ways. They may purchase additional tickets in advance to donate to CSUEB students, by contacting Scott Swanson at the church at swanson911@comcast.net They also may bring canned food for the food bank bin.

Concert parking will be limited.  Carpooling is recommended. Overflow parking will be available a third of a mile away at 1435 Grove Way, 200 feet East of the intersection of Grove Way and Foothill Boulevard, on the right hand side of Grove Way across the street from the Union 76 gas station. The California Highway Patrol will be providing traffic control. No parking will be permitted along Foothill Boulevard.
