CSI's Joseph Commits to Cal State East Bay

College of Southern Idaho setter Ashia Joseph has verbally committed to California State University East Bay, CSI volleyball coach Heidi Cartisser told the Times-News Tuesday.

The National Letter of Intent signing period opens April 17.

The Hilo, Hawaii, product dished out 687 assists and had 211 digs in leading CSI to its 10 th national championship in November.

Cal State East Bay, an NCAA Division II institution, plays in the California Collegiate Athletic Association.

Joseph is the sixth sophomore from the championship team to commit to a four-year school. Right-sided hitter Keani Passi, the AVCA national player of the year, is headed to Hawaii. Setter Marie Fujii has committed to Hawaii Pacific, while middle blocker Kristen Brandsma has already enrolled at Cal State Fullerton and fellow middle Eseta Maka has committed to Middle Tennessee. Right-sided hitter Liene Mellupe is headed to Florida Atlantic.

Heather Meeuwsen, Tineke Bierma, Brooke Jensen and Emily Ottinger are still weighing their options, Cartisser said, adding that redshirt freshman middle blocker Kaylee Holmstead has decided to serve a church mission.
