Cal State East Bay senior righthander Matt Fontaine has been named the Rawlings/California Collegiate Athletic Association Pitcher of the Week for April 15-21. He earned two victories as the Pioneers baseball team defeated Cal State Dominguez Hills three times in a four-game series last weekend.

Fontaine was 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA and 10 strikeouts in 9.2 innings of work. He took the ball in Friday's (April 19) opener and turned in the best outing of his Pioneer career. The Tracy native tossed a complete game, allowing no earned runs on four hits. He walked one and struck out a season-high 10 batters in the 5-2 victory.

On Sunday (April 20), Fontaine entered a one-run game with two runners on base in the ninth inning. He pitched 0.2 innings of scoreless ball and was the pitcher of record when the Pioneers after the Pioneers scored to win the game 9-8 in the bottom of the inning.

Fontaine is the second Cal State East Bay hurler to win weekly honors this year from the CCAA, joining Sean Becker, who captured the award twice (Feb. 18-24 and Mar. 4-10). Teammates Kyle Zozaya (Feb. 18-24) and Charlie Sharrer (Mar. 18-24) were selected CCAA Player of the Week earlier this season.
