Music legend Eddie Daniels to perform at 28th Annual CSUEB Jazz Festival

Legendary musician and composer Eddie Daniels will headline the 28th Annual Cal State East Bay Jazz Festival when he performs in concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 19 in the University Theatre on CSUEB’s Hayward Campus, 25800 Carlos Bee Blvd.
The two-day festival, which runs all day both that Friday and Saturday, April 20, features instruction for and performances by high school and college jazz bands and combos from throughout Northern California. Daniels will lead an instructional clinic for the young musicians and the visiting school music directors, and perform with them during Saturday's festival activities.
Daniels has toured and recorded with a variety of bands during a long and highly successful career. In 1989 he won a Grammy Award for playing the Roger Kellaway arrangement of “Memos from Paradise.” An acclaimed performer on the clarinet, Daniels first came to the attention of jazz enthusiasts as a tenor saxophonist with the Thad Jones-Mel Lewis Orchestra in the 1960s.
“Eddie Daniels is probably the world’s greatest clarinet player in jazz,” said Dann Zinn, interim director of Cal State East Bay’s Jazz Studies program and himself an acclaimed and saxophone and jazz combo performer. “As a jazz soloist, Eddie is one of the greatest of all time. We are so thrilled to have him at this year’s festival.”
