Admissions counselors advise hundreds at April 19 college fair

Hundreds of high school students will jumpstart their college research process April 19 at the Western Association for College Admission Counseling College Fair on the Hayward Campus of Cal State East Bay.
The fair will take place from 9:30 a.m. through noon April 19 in the Cal State East Bay University Gymnasium.
Approximately 120 college representatives will give out information and meet one-on-one with prospective students and their parents.
“Bus loads of students (are expected),” said Amanda Segura, director of enrollment development for Cal State East Bay.
Segura estimated that approximately 600 participants will visit the Cal State East Bay campus. She encouraged school groups such as Advancement Via Individual Determination and Upward Bound programs to visit the fair as a class. Grants of up to $250 are available to school programs to cover bus fees.
A counseling center will be set up at the event where students and parents can meet with high school counselors and college representatives to ask questions. Visitors to the counseling center can learn more about college academic entrance requirements, college admission testing, college majors, costs and financial aid, programs for students with learning differences and athletic eligibility requirements.
