Men's Golf earn second straight trip to NCAA Regionals
Ahlin was the top Pioneer golfer at the West Regionals and took 9th place overall.

DUPONT, Wash. — The Pioneer men's golf team finished the NCAA Division II West/South-Central Regional tournament in a four-way tie for 11th place on Wednesday. Cal State East Bay shot 292 (+4) in the final round of play at The Home Course for a total score of 874 (+10). This was the second straight trip to the Regionals for the CSUEB men.
It was a tight race, with six teams finishing within two strokes of the Pioneers. Abilene Christan, St. Edwards and CCAA rival Sonoma State matched them at 10 over par. East Bay was just 11 strokes out of fifth place and a trip to the NCAA Division II Nationals. Cal State Monterey Bay won the tournament at 854 (-10).
Senior Blake Ahlin continued his strong play, posting the best third-round score on the team and finishing in the top 10 overall. Ahlin shot 71 (-1) to give him a total score of 213 (-3), which was good for ninth place. This marks the second straight tournament he's finished under par and the third straight in which he's carded the lowest total on the team.
Junior Sam Lavelle was six strokes back of his teammate with an overall score of 219 (+3). He turned in a 75 on his Wednesday card, equaling his round-one total. Lavelle finished the event tied for 37th individually.
All-CCAA honoree Chris Herzog finished in a seven-way tie for 61st place at 222 (+6). The senior shot 74 on Wednesday, improving his second-round score by a stroke.
Fellow senior Andy Quintero had his toughest day of the week, posting a 78 in the final round to finish at 226 (+10), tied for 78th place in the field of 108 golfers. He was just one stroke ahead of teammate A.J. Hebert, who had his best day of the tournament. The sophomore shot an even-par 72, giving him a total of 227 (+11), which was tied for 82nd place.
