A digest of top, need-to-know dates, deadlines and events for faculty, staff and students, "This Month at CSUEB" is a regular feature of The View e-News. Read on for updates and previews of what’s happening at Cal State East Bay in the coming month:
• Focusing on a theme of first generation college students, Diversity Conference Day May 14 features keynote speaker Bill Lockyer '69, state treasurer and a past CSUEB Distinguished Alumnus of the Year, plus panel discussion and presentations including community and university leaders and students. The day's events, held in the new University Union multipurpose room, begin at 11:30 a.m. and conclude with a 6 p.m. showing of the documentary film "First Generation."
• Register to meet and greet prospective Cal State East Bay students at the May 9 Concord Campus Welcome Day. Alumni are encouraged to attend, including those who majored in business administration, criminal justice, nursing, liberal studies, nursing, psychology, sociology, human development, history and English. to attend.
• Attend a daylong May 9 TEDx gathering at the Hayward Campus, an independently-organized event inspired by the original Technology, Entertainment and Design conferences in which a series of big thinkers give the lecture of their life in 18 minutes or less. Cal State East Bay’s TEDx, reflecting the theme of Peace Innovation, runs from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the new University Union. Speakers include a CSUEB philosopher focused on social justice, a Stanford neurosurgeon leading compassion and altruism research and a pioneer in the corporate sustainability movement. • Pedal to CSUEB campuses May 9 as part of the annual Bike to Work Day. The Concord Campus invites participants to stop by for free snacks and goodie bags at the Energizer Station outside the Academic Services office.
• Improve your professional prospects and wellbeing with a visit to the May 18 Career and Community Health Fair at the Concord Campus. Free career workshops and employer tables for students are scheduled from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. A free family-friendly health fair for students, staff, faculty and family will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Learn CPR, give blood, watch healthy cooking and living demonstrations, explore an ambulance and more. . Free shuttles available to and from the Concord BART station.
• Get your questions about Cal State East Bay graduate study answered in one place at the May 21 CSUEB Graduate School Fair. for the event, scheduled from 5:30 to 7 p.m. in the New University Union multipurpose room on the Hayward Campus. • CalPERS invites new and longer-term members to a free webinar from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. May 29. Designed for employees in the early or middle stages of their careers, the webinar will provide an overview of CalPERS benefits along with tools and resources available.
