HAYWARD -- Traffic will be heavy on Foothill, Mission and Carlos Bee boulevards Friday afternoon and Saturday morning as thousands of students graduate from Cal State East Bay.
The university has combined commencement ceremonies this year, with about 700 graduate students receiving their degrees at Pioneer Stadium beginning at 5 p.m. Friday and almost 2,300 undergraduate students starting at 10 a.m. Saturday. Traffic is expected to be heaviest starting about two hours before the graduations begin and then afterward.
The Carlos Bee campus entrance will be closed Saturday to all vehicles except those displaying a disabled placard or a faculty or staff parking permit. Cars will be diverted to an entrance on the east side of campus off Hayward Boulevard that is normally closed. Special parking permits, issued earlier to all graduates and their families, will be required to enter this gate on Saturday.
If the campus parking lots fill up, those attending graduation will be directed to park at the Kmart parking lot at Harder and Mission or the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 200 Highland Blvd. The university will run a shuttle from the South Hayward BART station and Kmart.
