A veteran educator has been tapped to take over as principal of Terman Middle School in Palo Alto, the school district announced Tuesday.
Superintendent Kevin Skelly plans to recommend Pier Angeli La Place's appointment at the Aug. 27 board of trustees meeting. She would replace Katherine Baker, who was recently named director of secondary education.
"The vision and mission of Terman as an inclusive and socially respectful school dedicated to all of its students mirror my philosophy and I look forward to working alongside the fantastic staff to help our students continue to develop and achieve," La Place said in a statement.
La Place has taught in the Palo Alto Unified School District for 20 years, the vast majority of which were at JLS Middle School. In addition, she has been an instructional supervisor for 11 years, a teacher on special assignment and assistant principal of JLS since 2011.
La Place is credited with developing and facilitating middle school transition programs such as Panther Camp and Exit Interviews.
"Pier Angeli has a strong history of instructional leadership in our district and she is an outstanding match for Terman," Skelly said in a statement.
La Place attended Stanford University and Cal State East Bay and holds a Bachelor of Arts in history and ethnic studies, a multiple subject credential and a Master of Arts in educational administration from Santa Clara University.
