A digest of top, need-to-know dates, deadlines and events for faculty, staff and students, "This Month at CSUEB" is a regular feature of The View e-News. Read on for updates and previews of what’s happening at Cal State East Bay in the coming month:
• Donate blood July 18, and help save lives. Members of the Pre Health Academic Program, a post-baccalaureate program that prepares CSUEB students for medical school, have organized an American Red Cross Blood Drive from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the New University Union multipurpose room. for an appointment or contact PHAPBloodDrive@gmail.com.
• Join Accessibility Services for an American with Disabilities Act Anniversary Event, scheduled from noon to 3 p.m. July 29, in the New University Union multipurpose room. Festivities include lunch, guest speakers on accessibility and leisure and a short documentary about a student’s experience with accessibility on campus.
• Share your CSUEB experience with a new student during orientation sessions at the Concord Campus in July. Whether you’re an alumnus, current student or staff member, volunteers are needed from 5:30 to 8 p.m. July 25 during Transfer Student Orientation, and from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 27 for Freshman Orientation.
• Learn about “Savvy Medicare: What Boomers Should Know” at the July 10 session of the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at California State University, East Bay. The lecture runs from 2 to 3 p.m. at the Concord Campus. Free for OLLI Members; $5 for non members. at or call (925) 602-6776.
• Who needs a yard to plant a garden? Learn about straw bale gardening from noon to 1 p.m. July 18 in a workshop led by staff member and gardening enthusiast Lynn Traber. No experience necessary. Traber will introduce participants to the benefits of this technique, which is inexpensive, great for poor soil and be used to grow vegetables, herbs and flowers on any flat ground, from an old sandbox to an edge of a driveway.
