AUG. 1 LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Earlier letter is wrong about Warren Hall work

  • August 1, 2013

A July 25 letter to the editor provided inaccurate information that mischaracterized costs associated with Warren Hall, the former administration building on Cal State East Bay's Hayward Campus that is set to be demolished in August because of seismic risk.

The letter writer incorrectly said that funds were spent a few years ago to remove Warren Hall's top two stories and then to retrofit the building to make it earthquake safe. While that option had been discussed by Cal State officials in the past, no such funds were spent for that purpose and no seismic retrofitting occurred.

It is hoped that the letter writer's mind will be put at ease knowing no funds were wasted to alter a building set to be demolished within the next month. Instead, state funds were wisely invested for maximum safety and functionality in a new building.
