Stan Hebert named acting VP for reestablished Student Affairs division

Cal State East Bay has reestablished the Division of Student Affairs under the acting leadership of Stan Hebert III ’76. The change was effective as of Monday (Sept. 23).
“This decision is in support of our institutional commitment to student success and will contribute to an enhanced learning experience for our students,” President Leroy M. Morishita said.
Hebert ’76, who joined the university and the division in 2007, was appointed acting vice president of Student Affairs. In 2011, the California State Student Association named Hebert Administrator of the Year.
“His long-lasting association with Cal State East Bay, as well as his broad experiences in student services and his deeply-rooted commitment to students uniquely qualify him for this role,” said Morishita.
At a future date, the university community will be invited to participate in the search process to select a permanent vice president of Student Affairs.
Hebert previously worked in Student Affairs at Cal Poly Pomona and served as an adjunct faculty member at CSU Dominguez Hills in the College of Business Administration and Public Policy.
He earned an MBA at University of California Los Angeles Anderson School of Management in 1981 and a bachelor’s degree in business administration from then-Cal State Hayward.
In President Morishita’s 2013 convocation address, he discussed the importance to the university of reintroducing a Student Affairs division.
“We can, and must, do much better in retaining and then graduating our students,” he said. “It is going to take a number of steps (and) actions in every area of the University to reach our goals … I am re-establishing the division of Student Affairs in order to consolidate services that contribute to student development that are critical to their learning and success.”
Initially, the Student Affairs division to be headed by Hebert will include the offices of Student Retention Services, Student Life and Leadership, Student Health and Counseling, Student Housing and Residence Life, Parking and Transportation, Accessibility Services and Student Development.
“Bringing together these services under this division signifies, I hope, the importance of the services and programs outside of the classroom that can contribute to the success of our students,” said Morishita. “Working with the other divisions of the university, the focus will be doing all that we can to enhance student success.”
