Studium Teatralne to perform 'The King of Hearts' Oct. 5 at CSUEB's University Theatre

Performers from the Polish theatre ensemble Studium Teatralne will perform 'The King of Hearts' in Cal State East Bay's University Theatre this Saturday.

The San Francisco International Arts Festival is presenting the Bay Area debut of Studium Teatralne, a theatre ensemble from Warsaw, Poland, which will perform “The King of Hearts,” a play based on the true story of the life of Izolda Regenberg, a young Jewish woman trapped in the Warsaw ghetto with her husband and their families during World War II.

Cal State East Bay’s University Theatre in Hayward will host a performance of “The King of Hearts,” presented in Polish with English subtitles, by Studium Tretralne on Saturday, Oct. 5 at 8 p.m. Tickets are $20 in advance, $25 at the door, and $18 for senior citizens and fulltime students with an ID card. The university is located at 25800 Carlos Bee Blvd. in Hayward.

As part of the Studium Teatralne company’s appearance at Cal State East Bay, a related panel discussion about Poland and Polish history before and after World War II , will take place at 4 p.m. Saturday in the Studio Theatre, adjacent to the University Theatre on the campus. Featured in that discussion will be Krzysztof Persak, senior expert for the Institute of National Remembrance in Poland, and Cal State East Bay professors Jennifer Eagan (Philosophy Department) and Norman Bowen (Political Science Department). Rhoda Kaufman, CSUEB professor of Theatre and Dance, will be the panel moderator.

Admission to the panel discussion is free and open to the public.
