Kochan named CCAA Baseball Player of the Week

Cal State East Bay junior infielder Ryan Kochan named been named California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Baseball Player of the Week for Apr. 21-27, conference commissioner Mike Matthews has announced.

Kochan helped lead Pioneer baseball to a four-game sweep of visiting Cal State L.A. this past weekend. The San Ramon native had at least one hit in all four games of the series, including two multi-hit games and a 3-for-4 effort in Sunday's finale. For the weekend, he batted .467 with a .500 on-base percentage. Kochan led the Pioneers with seven hits, five runs batted in, and three stolen bases in the four games against Cal State L.A.

He exhibited outstanding defense at third base for CSUEB, showing off impressive range and taking several potential hits away from the Golden Eagle hitters. For the season, Kochan ranks fifth on the team with 39 hits and a .298 batting average. He's second on the team with nine stolen bases in 10 attempts.

Kochan's CCAA Player of the Week award is the first by a Pioneer baseball player during the 2014 season. Teammate Sean Becker was previously named Pitcher of the Week following the season's opening weekend in February.

The Pioneer baseball teams wraps up its regular season schedule this weekend with four games against San Francisco State. The annual "Senior Day" celebration will highlight CSUEB's final home games on Saturday, May 3.
