CSUEB names new Vice President for Student Affairs

Dr. Julie Wong, a distinguished leader in the areas of student engagement and success, has been selected to lead Cal State East Bay's Student Affairs division.
"I am delighted that Dr. Wong will be joining Cal State East Bay's leadership team," said CSUEB President Leroy M. Morishita. "Dr. Wong is bringing a wealth and breadth of skills and knowledge about Student Affairs. She has a reputation not just for her commitment to students, but also for her passion about leadership and community engagement. We look forward to her bringing her vision and energy to the university, Student Affairs and our students." Dr. Wong's appointment is effective January 26, 2015. She succeeds Stan Hébert III, who had served as Acting Vice President.
Dr. Wong, who currently serves as the Regional Associate Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs (Chief Student Affairs Officer) at the University of South Florida St. Petersburg, has more than 24 years of experience in higher education administration, and previously served as vice chancellor of Student Affairs at the University of Colorado Boulder. Prior to her work at Colorado, she served as the dean of Students at the University of Texas at El Paso.
Dr. Wong received her Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration from the University of Southern California. She received her M.A. in Student Affairs from Michigan State University, and her B.S. in Recreation from San Jose State University. She is a graduate of the 2013 Harvard Institute for Management and Leadership in Education and served as faculty for the NASPA (Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education) Manicur Leadership Symposium for Women Aspiring to Become Chief Student Affairs Officers in 2014.
"As Acting Vice President of Student Affairs, Mr. Hébert has done excellent work in re-establishing this Division," said President Morishita. "I want to thank him for his fine work in organizing this division and enhancing communication across the University. Stan is a valued member of the Cal State East Bay community and will continue to play a critical role on campus as Associate Vice President/Dean of Students."
