Cal State East Bay softball senior Jaynie MacDonald was named the Louisville Slugger/National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division II National Player of the Week for games played over Feb. 23-March 1.

MacDonald launched five homeruns in five games while hitting .417 (8 for 17) over the week. She hit homers in three consecutive at-bats over two games, and blasted the game-winning three-run homer in a series opening 4-3 win versus No. 19 Humboldt State.

"Jaynie is a special student-athlete,” said Cal State East Bay head coach Barbara Pierce. “She is the first one at practice and the last one to leave. She always does the little things and the things no one else wants to do. She had a monster week, and it was well earned through the hard work she puts in every day at practice and in the gym.”

MacDonald was also named California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Player of the Week, and Cal State East Bay Female Athlete of the Week. She leads all CCAA players with seven home runs, and she ranks second with 20 RBI.

Cal State East Bay (13-7, 6-6 CCAA) will host No. 3 Cal State Monterey Bay (13-2, 6-2 CCAA) for a four-game series starting on Friday, March 6.
