Cal State East Bay senior Ryan Kochan was named to the 2015 All-West Region second team by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.

The San Ramon, Calif. native led the CSUEB baseball team in batting average (.363), doubles (14), RBIs (36), on-base percentage (.407), and slugging (.503) while turning in consistently stellar defense at third base.

Kochan finished as the third-leading hitter in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) and was voted to the All-CCAA first team by the league's head coaches.

He closed out the season on a remarkable hot streak, recording a hit in each of the final 12 games and batting .521 during that time. He was the first Pioneer ever to earn the CCAA's Player of the Week award two straight times. It was no coincidence that the team played its best baseball of the season over the last three weeks, winning 14 of 17 games to close out 2015.

Kochan's .363 batting average was the highest by a CSUEB player since Nick McManus hit .398 in 2010 when a different type of bat was used. Kochan is also a standout performer in the classroom, holding a 3.63 GPA as a business administration major with Academic All-CCAA and CoSIDA Academic All-District awards on his resume.
