Klobas/Kesecker Ensemble Kicks Off CSUEB Music Department Season

Cal State East Bay’s music department will kick off its season with a faculty jazz recital on Tuesday featuring the Klobas/Kesecker Ensemble. Pat Klobas, a CSUEB faculty member, plays double bass for the group, which also includes Tommy Kesecker (vibes), Terrence Brewer (guitar), David Rokeach (drums), and special guest Mitch Butler (trombone). The noontime event will be held in room 1039 of the music building.

The music department will also host visiting artist-in-residence Leslie Amper for a series of events during the week of Oct. 19. Amper, a pianist and lecturer from Wheaton College, New England Conservatory and Longy School of Music, will hold an open recital and master class with CSUEB students on Oct. 20 at 2:30 p.m. She will also present “Creativity in Hard Times: The Federal Music Project of the 1930s,” a performance and discussion of music written for the WPA during the Great Depression, on Oct. 21 at noon in the music building recital hall. Amper will finish the week by holding a student recital of American compositions on Oct. 22 at noon.

All events are free and open to the public.
