CSUEB Plans Events for National Cybersecurity Awareness Month

- October 12, 2015
October is national Cybersecurity Awareness Month and Cal State East Bay’s Information Technology Services (ITS) department is committed to educating faculty, staff and students about best practices to keep themselves and their computers safe.
on Oct. 13 from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. in the University Theatre will highlight ITS’ efforts. “The Company Man: Protecting America’s Secrets” is a short film aimed at educating anyone with a trade secret about the threat to cybersecurity and how they can help mitigate it. Based on an actual case, the film illustrates how one U.S. company was targeted by foreign actors and how that company worked with the FBI to resolve the problem and bring the perpetrators to justice. The second film, “Game of Pawns,” helps raise awareness of the foreign intelligence recruitment threat to U.S. college students while studying overseas. In the film, the FBI offers a variety of useful resources, including an interview with a former student caught up in illegal activity.
In addition to the FBI presentation and films, ITS will also host a LEEP lecture on cybersecurity on Oct. 20 in LI 2250 from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m.
