Building CSU East Bay's Pioneer Analytics & Reporting Platform
- November 2, 2015
As technology usage increases and more data becomes available, leaders in higher education need faster and more efficient ways to manage and make sense of this data. Analytical software provides new ways to manipulate and use data that were previously unavailable. CSU East Bay’s demand for information has prompted the creation of the Pioneer Data Warehouse Steering Committee, which has been assigned to oversee the creation of new dashboards.
The Data Warehouse Steering Committee has already released two critical dashboards, Admissions and Financial Aid, as part of the CSU East Bay's Pioneer Analytics and Reporting (PAR) platform. This platform allows users to obtain actionable data in the data warehouse as early as one day after the data is created. Using their dashboard, the admissions department is now able to compare student admissions data across academic years, including the ability to interactively drill down to specific data that is most relevant for operational or strategic needs.
The Financial Aid dashboard allows users to research data on our financial aid programs, including relevant student eligibility and participation data. The dashboards serve as a self-service resource, replacing some of the manual reports frequently requested. In partnership with Information Technology Services' PAR team, the Data Warehouse Committee will continue to prioritize, create, and release new dashboards for staff and faculty.
"The new Financial Aid dashboards are allowing staff and faculty to readily access our data where and when they need it," said Rhonda Johnson, executive director of the Office of Financial Aid. “There is no need for them to open help tickets, or wait for us to design and run queries to extract needed data. Easily accessible data is especially critical when staff and faculty are writing grant proposal that require our data."
