Semester conversion, a multi-year effort to transition the campus from a quarter to a semester calendar, is underway at Cal State East Bay. In preparation for the change in Fall 2018, the Semester Conversion Steering Committee was formed in January 2015 drawing representatives from students, faculty, and administrative departments. From that committee a framework, student pledge and subcommittees were developed. A semester conversion website was launched to provide a vehicle to provide continuous updates as to the work of the various committees.

Beginning summer 2015, the administrative support, co-curricular and student support, faculty development and student advising subcommittees began their work in collaboration with various subcommittees of the Academic Senate. Faculty continues to engage in curriculum revision. Over 80 percent of academic programs have proposed transformed curriculum that will bring new pedagogical strategies into the classroom.

Students are at the heart of the initiative. Not only are they active members of the various semester conversion committees, this fall the Associated Students Inc. (ASI) has taken their involvement to a new level by creating a semester conversion subcommittee of the ASI Board.

In the coming months we will feature updates as to the process and progress of this major initiative at CSUEB. In the meantime, visit for more information.
