The Cal State East Bay University Art Gallery will host its annual Juried Student Exhibition starting May 17. The gallery, which showcases work created by students who have been enrolled in an art class during the 2015-16 academic school year, will remain open through graduation June 11.

This year’s exhibition showcases a large collection of paintings, drawings, photographs, collage, installation art, sculpture and other mixed media.

"These student exhibitions are important for students to participate in because it gives them an opportunity to showcase the artwork that they have made throughout the school year," said Carolina Gainey-Vejar, the university art gallery director and chief curator.

This year’s guest juror is professional artist and art instructor Susannah Israel. Israel’s work is widely known and includes appearances in private and public collections around the world such as the American Ceramics Collection, Mint Museum and the Archie Bray Foundation. She is the only American artist to ever win the Fletcher Challenge Premier Award for her piece “Lobo California,” now in a permanent collection in New Zealand.

Scholarships and awards donated by CSUEB alumni and local businesses will be announced during a welcome reception scheduled for May 17 from 5-7 p.m.

The gallery is open Monday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Faculty and staff interested in organizing a class visit should contact the gallery in advance so staff can accommodate students appropriately.
