The Cal State East Bay’s Master of Science in Health Care Administration program was recently recognized by the online college ranking website as No. 5 of the top 30 programs nationwide. The website creates guides and rankings to help students interested in health care administration careers find schools that will meet their educational needs.

Schools included on the list were selected for their quality, types of courses offered, faculty strength, awards and overall reputation.

The CSUEB program currently offers students two study options — one entirely online, the other at the Hayward campus.

This is the third such recognition for CSUEB’s MS-HCA program. In 2015, TopManagementDegrees.com ranked it 43rd out of the best 50 online programs in health management. And in 2014, TheBestSchools.org ranked the program 14th out of 25 of the best online programs in health care administration.

The healthecareadministrator.org website said with the ongoing expansion of health care industries, trained leadership and management professionals are in even higher demand, pushing many students to pursue a master’s degree.

Professor Toni Fogarty, the graduate coordinator of the MS-HCA program and O. Jay Umeh, professor and chair of the department of public affairs and administration, said programs like the one offered at CSUEB are vital to the well-being of California and the nation.

“Given the importance of having a well-functioning health care delivery system, the need for well-prepared and effective health care administrators and managers is critical,” they said. “We are very proud of the role that our MS-HCA program is playing in preparing health care administrators and managers, both for the present and the future.”
