In the Pioneering spirit of Cal State East Bay, more than 200 staff, faculty, administrators, and students have been trained to serve as allies to support the unique needs of undocumented students on campus. UndocuAlly training is a professional development opportunity designed to provide campus community members with awareness, knowledge, and skills for working with undocumented students.
The primary goals of UndocuAlly training are for participants to gain better understanding of the needs of undocumented students, policies and laws pertaining to undocumented immigrants, resources available for undocumented students at Cal State East Bay, ways individuals can be allies to undocumented students, and more. At the end of the specialized training session, faculty and staff are invited to sign an agreement that outlines their roles and responsibilities as an UndocuAlly.
As facilitators of the training, Cervantes and Hernandez “saw a need to raise campus awareness of the challenges that undocumented students face and how best to serve them. With additional allies, enhanced and expanded support services could be initiated.”
The UndocuAlly community is committed to serving the needs of our students regardless of their nationality or immigration status, and is a campus wide collaboration of many offices and programs on the Hayward and Concord campuses.
