A Message from President Morishita: Inside East Bay, August 2017

Although August may seem like a quiet time on campus, with students and faculty just starting to prepare to return in the fall, this is a university that truly never sleeps. Activity is everywhere — and has been all summer long.
During the past few months, Cal State East Bay has continued to serve our regional communities in important ways by bringing hundreds of visitors to campus for workshops, camps and conferences. In July, the university was once again a satellite location for the California Teachers Summit, an initiative that brings thousands of teachers together across the state for a day of collaborative professional development. We also hosted our first-ever Pioneer Pals camp, engaging children on the autism spectrum and their siblings to co-learn new communication strategies.
The research and work of our students and faculty also never ceases. Whether it's hands-on, investigative science such as CRISPR, a gene-editing technique that is transforming the bio-tech industry, or our students’ support of local families through the Hayward Promise Neighborhood’s Fresh Food for Families program, this summer has been filled with service, innovation and a dedication to learning.
We continue to make great strides toward our goals for Rising in the East: The Campaign for Cal State East Bay. In addition to finalizing a new website devoted to planned giving, our team has focused on the important work of forging partnerships and making the connections necessary to enable future opportunities for our students. Now, we begin to turn towards the excitement of a new academic year with great anticipation for all the milestones, accomplishments and discovery yet to come.
