Space shuttle launched the science career of CSUEB Lecturer Rob Mayeda

Environmental Sciences Lecturer Rob Mayeda is a child of the space shuttle generation, “Like many kids growing up in the ‘Space Shuttle’ generation, I had my eyes glued to the TV watching an incredible rocket ship with wings on April 12, 1981.”
Mayeda said this event helped launch his career in science. Earning his MS in Geosciences, he is now a broadcast meteorologist, multimedia producer/editor/videographer, storm chaser for NBC Bay Area and part time lecturer for Cal State East Bay.
In honor of the shuttle’s last flight, Mayeda posted a nostalgic recap on his blog of photos, videos and personal stories of what the space program has meant to him. View blog.
“For those of us lucky enough to have grown up with the Space Shuttle, it’s been an inspiring force,” wrote Mayeda. “With the very first Shuttle flight I know my interest in science reached full ignition and has never looked back.”
No doubt that Mayeda will be watching the shuttle's last landing on July 21...the end of a chapter for the "space shuttle generation".
