Mary Robinson, who served as president of Ireland (1990–97) and as United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (UNHCHR; 1997–2002), will speak at Cal State East Bay at 6 p.m. Monday, April 8, in the University Union’s multipurpose room. The event is free and open to the public.
Described as a passionate, forceful advocate for gender equality, women’s participation in peace-building and human dignity, Robinson will speak on “Making Human Rights the Compass for All Ethical Globalization.”
She is famously guarded about giving advice. In her interview with , Robinson did part with one piece of advice—one that “goes for any president or leader: Unless you surround yourself with people who tell you the truth, you’re foolish.”
Robinson’s visit is sponsored by Associated Students, Inc. for more information.
