English Proficiency Requirements

English language demonstration is required for all applicants processed in International Admissions. 

U.S. citizens/residents whose education is from outside the U.S. must demonstrate their English language proficiency.

CSUEB’s English language requirements may be waived for applicants who meet one of the following conditions:

  • Graduate applicants who obtained a bachelor’s or master’s degree from a U.S. regionally accredited institution
  • Undergraduate Transfer and Second Bachelor applicants with over 60 transferable semester units or 90 transferable quarter units from a domestic U.S. institution with a minimum grade point average of 2.4, and have completed a transfer course in each of the following general education areas with a grade of 2.0 or better: English composition, speech, critical thinking, and mathematics
  • First-year undergraduate applicants who completed at least three years at a U.S. high school  
  • Any applicant educated in one of the countries that qualify for an English waiver (listed below)

* Applicants for a Second Bachelor’s Degree need to meet the requirements of a Graduate applicant.

* Please note test scores are only valid for two years from the exam date.
