What's one thing you wish you had known as a freshman at CSUEB?
l wish l took advantage of all the resources and help available for almost anything you need. Many resources on campus are free!
What's a piece of advice you'd give?
Don't be afraid to ask. The worst thing to regret is not asking a question. Maybe someone else has the same question. Help yourself and others. Make lots of friends and don't be afraid of your professor.

What's one thing you wish you had known as a freshman at CSUEB?
I wish I would have known how important studying actually is for passing classes. There are many different methods to studying whether that be with a group, by yourself, with flashcards, or redoing your notes. What matters is finding what works best for you!
What's a piece of advice you'd give?
It is extremely important to stay organized! Knowing when homework is due, when the next exam is, free time, etc. can be easily forgotten. I recommend investing in a planner, calendar, and/or setting reminders on your phone so that way staying on top of your work can get a whole lot easier!

What's one thing you wish you had known as a freshman at CSUEB?
I wish I had known to take advantage of the resources available to me on campus. They are not just free but actually prepaid and coming out of my and your tuition. I also wish I knew not be or feel embarrassed about asking questions or getting help because it is literally what everyone - the staff, faculty, professors, SI Leaders, tutors, ect ect are here for!
What's a piece of advice you'd give?
Get involved on campus! I would encourage everyone and anyone to put themselves ot there and join some sort of organization or club so they can meet new people and have a second family on campus. College is so much more fun and less stressful when you get involved!

What's one thing you wish you had known as a freshman at CSUEB?
That mental health is very important. As college students, we're always on the go so we need peace in our minds to be truly okay.
What's a piece of advice you'd give?
Everyone is at their own pace, so try not to compare yourself to others. Also, be nice to yourself. We're a lot harder on ourselves than we are to other people. Work hard and be spontaneous.

What's one thing you wish you had known as a freshman at CSUEB?
You have to prioritize way more than expected. This meant having to give up or cut down certain things I really love in order to achieve academic and life goals.
What's a piece of advice you'd give?
I strongly recommend reaching out to professors.Ask questions during class, go to office hours, or email them often. It helps you do well in class, and also develops important communication skills in terms of getting feedback, help, or advice in an academic and even a work setting.

What's one thing you wish you had known as a freshman at CSUEB?
I wish I would've been more comfortable going to my professor's office hours. I feel that as a freshman I didn't see the value of going to office hours but now I do and I feel like my stress levels could've been a lot lower if I would have sought help instead of trying to figure out everything on my own.
What's a piece of advice you'd give?
Don't let your school work consume you, don't be afraid to have fun because leisure time is important too. Really try to connect with people and be yourself.

What's one thing you wish you had known as a freshman at CSUEB?
I wish I would've taken advantage of all the resources available to me such as the library, AACE, SCAA and so many more. I also wish I would have found a good balance between school and my social life and had better time management skills.
What's a piece of advice you'd give?
Get involved on campus and put yourself out there. Freshman year is scary coming in not knowing anyone. Joining a club and trying to meet people will help you make such great friends and give you a group of people you can hang out with which will make you feel less lonely and help you have a better experience. Also, ask for help when you need it. No one is here to judge you and almost everyone is willing to help

What's one thing you wish you had known as a freshman at CSUEB?
My freshman year I thought I was the only one who was homesick and had anxiety about college. YOU ARE NOT ALONE! It's a transition for everyone.
What's a piece of advice you'd give?
Get involved on campus! Even if you feel overwhelmed with the whole "college experience", you will make amazing friends through clubs and organizations on campus, and it will make East Bay feel like home.

What's one thing you wish you had known as a freshman at CSUEB?
I wish I would have known the importance of balancing school life and social life, I feel like I always gave more importance to one thing more than the other and never really took the time to figure out how to balance the two. When I did learn to balance the two however, I found myself being happier and enjoying my classes more.
What's a piece of advice you'd give?
Ask for help! As a freshmen I was afraid to ask for help because I thought my questions were 'dumb questions' or that I should already know the answer to this or that. This is almost never true! Always ask for help, there is no shame in not knowing something. This campus is filled with resources and people willing to help students succeed more than anything.

What's one thing you wish you had known as a freshman at CSUEB?
I’d wish I’d known was how important my mental health was! I feel like as a freshman, many students just try to focus on school, and it’s easy to forget to take some time for yourself. Your education is always important, but taking care of yourself if the most important thing there is!
What's a piece of advice you'd give?
Don’t be afraid to talk to your professors! I think a lot of students get intimidated by the idea of office hours, or think they’ll be judged if they reach out for some extra help. Trust me, your professors are there to help you and they love to hear from their students!

What's one thing you wish you had known as a freshman at CSUEB?
I wish I had put myself out there more and did more instead of focusing a majority of my time in academics. In other words, I wish I had focused on trying to make the most of the new opportunities I had as a freshman and balanced everything in a more manageable way.
What's a piece of advice you'd give?
Don't be too hard on yourself and try not to be too much in your head. It's okay to put your own well being as your number one priority even when you feel as if you're not doing enough. It'll help you in the long run.

What's one thing you wish you had known as a freshman at CSUEB?
I wish I knew how fast classes would go. Last year we were on quarter system so you really had to be on top of all of the class work. Even though we are now on semester system, it still is moving pretty fast even though it feels like we have a bunch of time.
What's a piece of advice you'd give?
Don't get intimidated by the professors! Going to office hours is a great way to get help and get to know the professor. Usually they are more friendly in office hour and can help you one on one. Some even give hints to what will be on future exams and how you should approach studying for their class.

What's one thing you wish you had known as a freshman at CSUEB?
I wish I knew how important it was to take things in moderation. Studying too much or spending a lot of time in extra curricular is never a good idea. Balancing your social and academic life will be a challenge and will continue to be until you acknowledge and respect your own limits and boundaries.
What's a piece of advice you'd give?
Plant relations with everyone you come into contact with. Especially your peers as they're in the same boat as you and of course your professors. You'll be so glad and thankful that you did!

I wish I would've taken advantage of all the resources on campus and I wish I would've taken my mental health more seriously and not been afraid to talk to someone about how I was feeling.

Don't be afraid to ask for help and take advantage of the opportunities that present themselves. College is what you make it.

What's one thing you wish you had known as a freshman at CSUEB?
I wish I would've known how important it is to take a break from studying and to take time for yourself. As a pre-nursing major I definitely put a lot of pressure on myself and put much of my focus on studying. Find an outlet that helps you distress and find a balance between school and fun.
What's a piece of advice you'd give?
Don't be afraid to seek out help! Whether it be in regards to academics, campus life, or mental health, sometimes students find difficulty reaching out for fear of judgement. No one is here to judge you because it is our job to help you find the resources you need!

What's one thing you wish you had known as a freshman at CSUEB?
I wish I knew how to manage my time better, because I took a lot of classes while working. So it was hard for me to find time for myself.
What's a piece of advice you'd give?
Don't take on more than you can handle! You need to be able to balance school, work, and time for relaxing. So don't be afraid to say "no" to something that will cause you extra stress.

What's one thing you wish you had known as a freshman at CSUEB?
I wish I was more aware of making sure that my mental and physical health were not brushed to the side. Maintaining my physical and mental health in college was a challenge for me because at the time, I did not have the exact support system I needed. So try to have those people there for you that will help remind you why you want to pursue a career in the field you want!
What's a piece of advice you'd give?
It's okay to say no to people and it is NOT your responsibility to take care of EVERYONE. You must make sure that you are good and stable first, and then be able to offer help to others. Limit yourself and do not feel obligated to be everyone's hero, because even heroes need days off to relax!

What's one thing you wish you had known as a freshman at CSUEB?
I wish I knew more about the environment for those who live on campus. I commute almost an hour to campus and it was hard for me to connect to those who dormed or lived nearby. If I'd known more about the dorming life and environment it would have been easier for me to make more friends.
What's a piece of advice you'd give?
Find clubs or organizations that connect to you because you will meet a TON of amazing people who are also into the same things as you are! Getting involved allows you to make more friends and make a lot of memories.

I wish I would have know that it is ok to ask for help from anyone. Asking for help just proves to others that you do care. Seeing that you care will make them want to help you. Plus their job is to help you out!
What's a piece of advice you'd give?
Go to see AACE counselor as soon as possible so you know what courses you must take for your GE. Seeing an AACE counselor will help you be ahead of the game. Take advantage of all the opportunities on campus - events, resources, free stuff. You already paid for it with your tuition! Stay on top of your class work but also have fun. Your mental health is very important so take some free time every once in a while. Also freshmen 15 is an actual thing so stay active! Take a walking on the hill or go explore downtown Hayward. Just stay on top of both your mental and physical health.

I wish I had known more about where to go if I needed help with challenges outside of academics, such as Student Health and Counseling services.
What's a piece of advice you'd give?
Get involved. It doesn't matter if you have any experience or if you don't know anyone in the club or organization that you want to be a part of. Being involved on campus makes the college experience more fun and memorable while also providing you with a great opportunity to make new friends.

What's one thing you wish you had known as a freshman at CSUEB?
I wish I was more aware of the resources around me. I was very oblivious to the help I could have gotten but did not get due to my lack of knowledge.
What's a piece of advice you'd give?
Learn more about the campus instead of simply showing up to campus and attending class. There is so much we have yet to learn as freshmen and one of the most helpful things would be learning about the campus around us.
